Have you been stressing out because you can't figure out what your next move is going to be? Well if so, I want to let you know that you are in good company.
Generally speaking, I would say I feel confident about where God has me, but I would be lying if I said that I never feel the pressure to have my life look a certain way. Honestly, the older I get the more I feel the pressure to "have my life together". However, over time I've realized that this pressure is often fueled by well meaning people who define successful adulting in ways that don't always allow room for faith.
When you live by faith your life doesn't always look "normal". Not only that, but the truth is God doesn't always reveal his plans for our future in detail. This is something we know to be true in our own lives, but we can also see in the book of Genesis when calls Abraham.
The Bible says that, "The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you. I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.” (Genesis 12:1-3)
I think it's so easy to get caught up in the fact that God makes all these awesome promises to Abraham that we skip over the life-changing instructions that God gives him:
1. Leave your family.
2. Leave your country.
3. Don't worry about where your going.
4. Just start walking.
5. I will show your where to go.
That would be like God telling you to leave your house, leave your family, and take everything you own to the airport by faith because he's going to show you where to go. Now, that sounds crazy, but the thing is living by faith doesn't always make sense.
As much as we may have pre-rehearsed responses to most of the questions regarding our future, the truth is there will be moments where we don't know what's next, and that's okay. If you knew every detail about your life then God wouldn't be God, and we wouldn't need to live by faith.
So, instead of letting worry and your desire to control things stress you out, I want to encourage you find peace in the things that God has already revealed to you. Like Abraham, you may have no idea where you're going, but you can still find peace in the fact that God will show where to go and how to get there.
