SINGLE AND THIRSTY

May 21, 2018

For the longest time I never understood that whole "singleness is a blessing" thing. In my mind, this was just something married people said to make single people feel better about their singleness.  I mean, come on! Had they forgotten what it was like to be single?!? Anyone who's been single for long enough knows that the single life can be lonely, frustrating, and actually quite depressing more often than not.

However, as God began to work on this area of my life, I realized that my doubts had to less to do with the suspicious married people who said these kinds of things, and more to do with the fact that I wasn't content in my singleness. I knew that something was missing, and my lack was unbearable. I was single and thirsty.

On the outside I tried to be as chill as possible, but on the inside I drier than sun itself. Amazed by the people in my life who didn't seem to have this problem, I set out to find out where this feeling was coming from and ways to overcome it. As I began to bring this to God, he showed me that one of the main reasons why I felt this way was because my life lacked purpose, and he was right.

My main goal at the time was to get married, become a wife, and become a mom, in that order. Now, I never thought or said that directly, but based on the way I was living my life, that was definitely the pinnacle of my existence. Up until that point, all I knew was that God had called me to do some stuff, that would somehow happen, someday. But, during that season, he got specific. As I sought God's plan, will, and my purpose for my life, he gave me a greater sense of purpose. When this happened, the  focus of my life began to shift. I became a woman on a mission.

So my question to you is, why are you here? What has God been calling to, and what are you doing about it? 1 Corinthians 7:34 says that, "...A woman who is not married or a girl who has never married is busy with the Lord’s work. ...", but have you really been busy with the Lord's work? These are the types of questions you need to ask yourself because that guy will come, and it's going to be awesome... But right now, that's not where you are. Right now, you are single and have the privilege of chasing your God dreams without the responsibilities that come with being a wife and mother.

I've found that when your life is full of Jesus and purpose there is very little room for that lack to creep in. However, if you feel like your life is lacking purpose apart from finding “the one”,  I want to encourage you to seek the Lord, find your God given purpose, and chase after it like your life depended on it! You are more than someone's future wife. God has specific things that he has called you to do since before you were born that have nothing to do with you getting married. Walk in those things.
