The indescribable pain that accompanies rejection, unmet expectations, and abandonment is one I am all too familiar with. Despite all my attempts, and trust me I’ve tried pretty hard, I have found that moments of brokenness cannot be completely avoided. The truth is, things don’t always work out with the guy you’re interested in, friendships can unexpectedly come to an end, and what feels like an amazing opportunity can be sudden snatched away from you.
If you’ve ever been affected by one of these things or any painful experience, you know that feelings of pain can at times feel overwhelmingly unbearable. I think everyone can agree that there are levels of pain and brokenness that no amount of Netflix, junk food, ice-cream, shopping, or distraction can fix. So seriously, let’s talk solutions.
1 | Bring Your Emotions to God
I know alot of times the last thing that we want to do when we’re hurt and over everything is go to God, but I’d be doing you a disservice if I didn’t let you know the truth. Psalm 34:18 says, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed”. So, if you are not bringing your emotions to him, you are missing out on the kind of super natural comfort, divine wisdom, and inexplicable peace that only be found in him. Pray. Put some worship music on and soak in his presence. Listen. Read your Bible. And always remember that he is the only one who really gets you and can completely handle your pain.
2 | Talk to Someone
One of the worse things you can do is keep everything you’re going through bottled up inside your heart. That honestly never ends well. Do yourself a favor and reach out to a trust worthy person in your life who is in tune with Jesus and let them know what’s going on. You’d be surprise how much wisdom, support, and encouragement people have to offer when you give them a chance.
3 | Step Back and Fill Up
When you’re feeling broken the last thing you need to do is spend all your time scrolling through social media and stuffing your mind with things that are only going to make things worse. Step back from anything that is not helping and fill your mind up with things that are going to help you heal, grow, and move forward with your life. Get you a faith based book on healing or whatever you’re going through, find a relevant podcast, and indulge yourself in a good sermon series on YouTube.
I know it can pretty tough trying to deal with emotions of hurt, pain, and brokenness. But, keep your head up! “...God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them”. - Romans 8:28 And on top of that, Jesus is with you. Take heart, and be encouraged! ❤️
